This work aims to establish relationships between Brazilian film Diva, directed by Alvarenga Jr. and released in 2009, and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. For this, the film is used as an example of theoretical and practical aspects involved in the psychotherapeutic process of adult woman with conflicting experiences in relation to herself, to the other and to her professional projects. Mercedes, the protagonist, enacts real conflicts, to which we all, humans are susceptible, present in marital relationships, in friendships, in relationships between mothers and children, in life and in death. Following Mercedes's fictional therapy it was possible to analyze metaphorically how an analytical process of real patients is carried out,the different phases that compose it and some of the psychic movements usually attached to it, such as developments in the use of more immature toward more mature defense mechanisms of the ego.
